Recognising the indicators of potential child sexual abuse can aid in empowering kids to speak up & receive timely support.

I’m not here to sugarcoat or share fairy floss political correctness advice. Understand predators are ruthless, manipulative & calculating in their pursuit to abuse kids.
At times, kids may lack the understanding that the occurrences are inappropriate, or they may feel fearful about reporting them. Many kids are too young to talk so it’s even more crucial as parents we check our kids for possible signs of abuse.
Performing checks does not entail conducting a thorough & inappropriate examination upon the immediate arrival of your child.
It is advisable to conduct checks during routine activities such as changing nappies, showering, or bathing your kids to monitor for any signs of concern.
When a child experiences sexual abuse, they may choose not to disclose this traumatic event for various reasons.
Although there exist signs & symptoms that could suggest the occurrence of sexual abuse, it is crucial to understand that the presence of these indicators does not definitively confirm such abuse. While some kids may exhibit several signs, others may display very few or none at all.
Some observable signs in young kids but not limited to of sexual abuse may include:
- Bruises
- Bleeding, discharge, or pain in the genital or anal area
- Sexually transmitted infections, including in the throat
- Throat pain or soreness
- Unusual difficulty in walking or sitting for the child
- Signs of trauma to the genital area, such as unexplained blood on the sheets, underwear, or other clothing
If you notice any of these signs, please seek appropriate help & support. While these are a few physical signs there are also emotions & behavioural signs. We urge parents to understand & research these signs to prevent or stop abuse occurring for long periods as many case files of actual abuse show.
I appreciate all those parents, & daycare staff for your messages about how important this topic is to discuss. Having these conversations, even though YOU WILL be met with backlash, is so important to have with friends & especially children.
